Young researchers

The GdR devotes a significant part of its activities to supporting young researchers. By this we mean PhD students and colleagues who have recently defended their PhDs, right up to the first few years after their recruitment to MACS network laboratories.

A number of tools are gradually being introduced to support young researchers.

Support and creation of thematic schools

Every year, the Gdr MACS organises a thematic school on a subject of specific interest. Held over a week on a specific site conducive to exchanges, the school includes didactic presentations on the chosen topic, as well as workshops on the proper conduct of theses and preparation after the PhD period.

The GdR also supports the training courses organised by the EECI, the Grenoble Automatic Control Summer School organised each year by GIPSA-lab colleagues, and the spring school on learning dynamic systems.

Encouraging and supporting mobility

Recognizing that research is enriched by exchange and interaction, the GdR wishes to encourage mobility among young researchers. After PhD, temporary contracts are a good way of discovering new working environments and research topics, such mobility can also be useful during the thesis, for example by spending a few months in other laboratories. The GdR would like to make this type of mobility easier within the network of MACS member teams. The mapping of the network should make it easier to identify contacts for such mobility. The GdR also decided to set aside a budget to directly finance a small number of these inter-team mobilities.

Best Thesis Award

Each year, the GdR organizes a selection of the best theses in the field and awards a prize. Theses must have been defended in a French institution and be on a subject related to MACS.

Post-doctorate support

In addition to the workshops organised during the MACS schools, the GdR is committed to supporting young researchers in their search for academic or non-academic posts. To this end, each November the GdR organises a session devoted to a detailed explanation of the CNRS and assistant professor recruitment competitions. This session is an opportunity to discuss with potential candidates their plans ahead of the competitions, and to provide them with individual feedback.

Integration into the GdR network

The GdR is compiling a list of young colleagues recruited to its member teams. If you are one of them, do not hesitate to contact the person in charge of young researchers on the steering committee: Jean Auriol. The aim is to establish contact with these colleagues as soon as possible and integrate them into the activities of the GdR. In this way, the MACS network can enable them to develop their research projects at national level as a complement to their work within the teams they join. In particular, young researchers are invited to submit research projects to the MACS network via MACS Actions .
